PODCAST 9: Rough Cut Updates
...
...
...
- We have a full performance cut
- Full rough cut is based on this with a few changes
- Still need to make more changes
- Competition
- audience responses still need to be filmed
- Some slo-mo!
- Would've been better to have girl's hair tied back to show emoting
- Lot of shakey shots; lot of out of focus - target oof especially with layering
- Is there scope for BRIEF diegetic intro and/or intro?
- Lot of takes need brief trimming to reduce elements that diminish verisimilitude
- Every 'drop' needs careful consideration
- Fair bit of vocals not quite synced
- SS' perf + costume is a strength
- Play around with possible colouring/FX to make narrative distinctive too.
- Good eg of where you might layer: 017 has lot of open space, so maybe some of that graveyard scene
- 023 good eg of framing that works well for non-greenscreened layer
- 032 good eg of take needing slight trimming (from end)
- the 3 'coverage' takes around 042, last works well, prev 2 are random, and don't (think about hand scraping over wall mural / grafittied wall etc
- stairs/bedroom - see my comments on prev cut; same issues
- this includes ONE jump cut; usually makes more sense to have 2/3 in one sequence
- 058 an eg of not really paying full attention to the drop
- always be clear why you're using a take; 114 is just too random
- 118 a big audio spike (duplicating audio layer?)
- 122 watch out for takes that are too short; this also needs shot variety, eg CU of the eating
- 125 look for opportunities to illustrate (Goodwin) lyrics, eg intoxicate me
- Re-shoots:
- Performance
- Burnt down building
- Solo performance
- Need more variety, especially at the end were car park is too much
- Some lyrics bit out of sync, need to be reshot
- Narrative
- Add in lead singer at the end
- changes of costume
- change argument scene with more close ups and slow mo slaps
- change whole funeral scene adding in lead singer
